Gillian's Place
Completed in Octiber 2007 on time and on budget, this project involved reovating a 90 year old elementary school into a fully functional and secure women’s shelter. The facility contains 18 bedrooms with shared accomodations and a capacity of 35 beds as well as individual shared washrooms. The shelter contains a full kitchen, dining room, living room, activity rooms for adults and teens, tv room, quiet room, gymnasium for the children, and laundry room. Separated from the living area are office spaces and councelling rooms. The existing structure remained in place however a new full elevator was installed within the building to provide handicap access to all levels. The roof was re-done and all the windows and exterior doors replaced. The existing classrooms were divided into bedrooms and office space with the building receiving new services which allowed each bedroom separate temperature control. New parking lots and private fenced play and lounge area completed the exterior.
